An online event dedicated to “15 June – National Salvation Day” was held at the Chamber of Auditors on 12 June 2026.
The event began with a visit to the bust of National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev installed in the administrative building of the Chamber of Auditors, followed by a screening of a video dedicated to “15 June – National Salvation Day”.
Opening the event with introductory remarks, Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors, Professor Vahid Novruzov, extended heartfelt congratulations, on behalf of the Chamber’s leadership, to the employees and members of the Chamber on the occasion of National Salvation Day.
In his speech, Vahid Novruzov noted that one of the most important days in the destiny of the Azerbaijani people, a remarkable day written in golden letters in our history, is “15 June – National Salvation Day”. Thirty-three years mark Azerbaijan’s period of salvation and victory. On 15 June 1993, with the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power, Azerbaijan was rescued from a deep socio-political and economic crisis, and solid foundations for development were laid.
The name of Heydar Aliyev has gone down in our history as that of the savior of the Motherland and the people. Looking back at history, we can see that Azerbaijan, which restored its state independence at the end of the 20th century, soon faced major threats. The political crisis in the country had reached its peak, while chaos and anarchy had engulfed the republic.
The ongoing occupation of Azerbaijani territories by the armed forces of Armenia, along with the increasingly tense economic, political and social situation, made it necessary to have a leader capable of saving the country from these calamities and leading the people. A widespread view had emerged in society that the only person capable of bringing the country out of this difficult situation was Heydar Aliyev. Our people persistently called upon their great son to return to power. On 9 June 1993, National Leader Heydar Aliyev responded to the call of the people and returned to Baku, and a few days later assumed the leadership of the country. This was, in the truest sense of the word, a turning point in the destiny of our country and an important step towards great salvation.
On 15 June 1993, Heydar Aliyev was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan and, despite the great risks, courageously assumed the mission of salvation.
Through his mission of salvation, Heydar Aliyev preserved the independence of our country, eliminated the socio-political crisis engulfing the republic and laid the foundations for development. As a result, the tension and confrontation that had continued in the country for many years subsided, and our republic was saved from civil war and the threat of disintegration. That year, Azerbaijan, which had been at a crossroads of “life or death”, was transformed through Heydar Aliyev’s tireless efforts into a powerful state looking confidently towards the future. On 3 October 1993, the National Leader was elected President of the country by the overwhelming majority of our people and directed all his efforts towards ensuring civil solidarity and stability in the country, and succeeded in doing so.
The greatest wish of the National Leader was to see Azerbaijan whole and united, and this wish came true 27 years later when President Ilham Aliyev fulfilled his father’s testament. Today, our tricolor flag proudly flies in Shusha, Khankendi, Lachin, Khojaly, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli and Kalbajar.
President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev is laying the foundations of infrastructure projects in the liberated territories, lighting the Novruz bonfire in Shusha, and taking urgent measures towards the implementation of the Great Return programme.
The path of statehood defined by Heydar Aliyev is being successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev.
Our respected President Ilham Aliyev said: “The ideas of Heydar Aliyev live on, as do his philosophy, the philosophy of Azerbaijanism, and his ideology; the Azerbaijan he created and built lives on and continues to develop. We must all move our Motherland forward along the path he showed us”.
The event was then addressed by Sabukhi Gulmammadov, Executive Director of the Chamber, and members of the Chamber of Auditors: Mehdi Babayev, Director-Auditor of “BAKI HESABAT MƏRKƏZİ” LLC, Eldar Tahmazov, Director-Auditor of “AZƏRUÇOT” LLC, Elshan Ibadov, Director-Auditor of “NİAC” LLC, Elchin Akbarov, Director-Auditor of “CONSULTING GROUP” LLC, Azer Aliyev, Director-Auditor of “A PLUS AUDİT” LLC, Ramal Mehdizade, Director-Auditor of “Modern Audit Servis” LLC, independent auditors Ilham Suleyman, Aghabala Gurbanov and Shahzada Shirinova, Afiga Bayramova, Deputy Head of the Department for Combating Unfair Competition and International Relations of the Chamber of Auditors, Elmira Hajiyeva, Head of the Human Resources Training Department, and Laman Huseynova, employee of the Organizational and Technical Support Division. They spoke about the unparalleled services rendered by National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Azerbaijan and its people, the targeted economic reforms implemented by President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, who are successfully continuing this path, the restoration and reconstruction works carried out in our territories liberated from occupation, the Great Return programme and other activities.
The speakers also stated that the cherished memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev will live forever in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people, no matter how many decades or centuries pass, noting that he laid the foundations of the country’s foreign and domestic policy and economic development strategy and played an exceptional role in preserving state independence and the ideology of Azerbaijanism.
May Almighty God grant mercy to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and may his soul rest in peace!
